How is Interaction Design Foundation?
IDF has been around for 17 years. As Don Norma put: “A goldmine of information on interaction design”. Many UI/UX designers including myself are IDF members. Our UI/UX Bootcamp students also took it prior or alongside our course. They offer 32 courses including “HCI” “Become a UX designer”, “Create a UX portfolio”, “Become a freelance designer”…
Learning from some courses and adding the certificates on LinkedIn helped me getting my first UX designer job 5 years ago, and transitioning to a freelancer and entrepreneur last year.

Who are the courses for?

If you are learning UI/UX design, transitioning into this field or you are already a designer who wants to advance your knowledge/career or specialize in service design, UX strategy, design thinking, HCI…If you are looking for high quality affordable courses, then IDF is a great choice!

How can I get the discount or apply for a free membership?

Flowhack is an education partner of IDF, therefore they offered us a 25% discount link to share with those who need it. For those who can’t afford at all, you can apply for a scholarship on their website and 1 every 10 students can get a free membership!

Do online courses provide you with enough knowledge to get into a UI/UX design?

Online courses are a great start to learn UI/UX design. They are mostly self-paced and quite affordable so you could study besides your current job. I have taught myself UI/UX through online courses, however, my university degree is in industrial design so I already had a design portfolio.

If you are coming from a non-design background, then I recommend you to first complete an online course and get some basic knowledge, then find a mentor or join a Bootcamp so that you can work on projects and get professional feedback to improve your work.

What are the best UI/UX courses in 2024?

In this article: How to choose the best UI/UX design courses or Bootcamp for you, I reviewed IDF, coursera as well as  Designlab, Springboard, and Flowhack as I mentor at all of them and also included their discount links.

Most importantly

If you are looking for your first UI/UX design job, your portfolio, technical and interview skills are the key to a successful career transition. What the companies look for is a fast learner and a great team player who can apply a user-centred design process. Here is a guide to help you start: How to build a UX portfolio without work experience.

This would be a rewarding journey and you’ve made a great decision to transition to a UI/UX designer! Wish you lots of success
