Best UX design portfolio websites and examples in 2022

Are you building your online UX portfolio? What is the best website builder for your portfolio? Where to find inspirations and good examples? What to include and how to show your case studies? How to improve your portfolio?  This guide will answer your questions!

How to build a UX portfolio which stands out?
A good UX portfolio is about showing the process, not only the end result.
Develop at least 3 solid UX design case studies to showcase your problem-solving and visual storytelling skill, user-centred thinking as well as design process in your portfolio. It’s best to select the case studies which are interesting for your future employers.
Here are some tips to help your portfolio stand out:

  • Well-designed images and a clear structure showcasing your design process and deliverables
  • Who are you and what motivates you as a designer: show your passion and why you like UX design.
  • Your strength and focus: show what makes you a good UX designer, is your strength in user research or wireframe/prototype or other areas?

What is the best website builder for my online portfolio?
An online portfolio can be accessed both on desktop and mobile. It appears more professional and shows your personality and ability to design a responsive website. There are many online platforms where you can set up a portfolio site easily and update it regularly.

Hosting platforms and templates:
Webflow templates (our recommendation)
Squarespace
Canva templates

I recommend having your portfolio in both PDF and web-based format. PDF version allows you to tailor the portfolio to a specific company/role. The disadvantage is that you cannot update it once you’ve sent it out. Make sure to compress your PDF under 10mb.

Where to find UX design portfolio inspirations and examples?
Here are some websites where you can find portfolio inspirations:
Bestfolios
awwwards

I’ve also collected some of the best portfolios here from our Flowhack students which are all completed within a few months.

How to improve my portfolio?
Send your portfolio to fellow designers, or ideally a UX mentor to get feedback so that you can improve your portfolio. They will tell you if there is anything unclear, confusing or missing. We have a great slack community where you can get portfolio reviews from peers and we also offer a 3-months UX Job Search Booster program to help you polish the portfolio, prepare for interviews and apply for jobs.

Most importantly,

The more you improve, the better your portfolio gets, and the higher your chance of getting a good job is. Feel free to reach out to us info@flowhack.co if you need any guidance on portfolio, interviews or landing a UI/UX job. And of course, Trust yourself! ; )
